Experian’s Person Verification Service

Experian’s Person Verification Service (PVS) is a real-time identity verification tool that assists in confirming an individual's identity when face-to-face verification is impossible. It leverages personal and credit information from the Experian Bureau Database to enhance security and mitigate risks associated with identity fraud.

PVS is ideal for businesses that require accurate and secure identity verification, especially when personal interactions are not possible, such as in finance, retail, and telecommunications. It’s also suitable for companies needing to protect against phishing and other forms of fraud.

The service supports customers in meeting their identity verification obligations under applicable laws, including FICA, but does not replace the customer’s own compliance.

How It Works

PVS generates a set of multiple-choice security questions based on an individual's personal and credit information. The answers provided by the consumer are measured against an accuracy threshold, which the Experian subscriber sets.

This process provides a risk-based indication of identity confidence based on the responses provided and available data sources. Data sources such as Deeds Data, Credit Accounts Data, and Employment Information are used to create these questions, ensuring comprehensive verification.
